exoskeleton, we proved that NONE of the new creatures were insects. They were all imposters!
Remember our first insect mystery? Well, here's another one we solved today. We each got a picture of a tiny creature, and we had to decide if it was an insect. We had to compare the mystery creatures to what we know about insects. Since we know that an insect has to have six legs, three body parts, and an
exoskeleton, we proved that NONE of the new creatures were insects. They were all imposters! Hi! My name is Meth! Want to learn about my life? I am a Sri Lankan, except my family moved to the USA and I was born in Troy, MI. The last time I went to Sri Lanka to meet my grandmother, we went to the mountains! I saw one of the talelst waterfalls there! I couldn't believe my eyes! I love going to Sri Lanka!
Want to hear a disgusting thing? This week, we learned about how water gets polluted by doing a simulation. That means we acted it out. We pretended like a tub of water was the Potomac River. Mrs. Freeman gave us each a cannister of something to pollute the water. We put a fish-shaped sponge in and pretended it was a fish. We listened to a story about the river over time, and when we heard the name of our cannister, we came up, opened the cannister and dumped the stuff in the water. After we were finished, we thought that the fish wouldn't be able to live in it anymore. We learned that we humans are the ones that pollute, so we should all try to stop. My name is Siri, and I like school. My favorite subject is writing bacuase I like to write small moments. I have sooo much homework from Kumon! I have a little sister, and she is very cute! She is just one month old. I have so many talents! Like singing, dancing, drawing, writing, and bicycling. And that's all about me! Well, not ALL about me. Some. That's it.
Hi! It's us again! Remember when we told you about the science mystery? The one about Larry, Curley, and Moe? Well, we solved the mystery! The three different creatures we had in our observation cups were really the same kind of creature, but at different stages of their life cycle. Moe is the youngest, but he is really called a larva, or a mealworm. Larry comes next, but he is really a pupa. And last comes Curley, the oldest. He is really an adult beetle! The way a pupa turns into a beetle is really cool. All those stages combined together are called metamorphosis. And now we creatures to study, called waxworms! We think they might go through metamorphosis too!
Hi guys! It's us again! This time we're writing about our new Author Study book clubs. We've noticed that as we read more and more books by one author, we start to like them even more. And... we can even learn more about writing! One day, when we were at the Computer Lab, we got to research about our authors. We got to learn about their lives and their careers as authors. Some of them did silly things when they were kids, and some of them have written more than 100 books! See you later!
In winter I love to have snowball fights with my brother. I love making cookies, also eating them. I also like to ski, make snowmen and sled.
Happy New Year, authors! Before Winter Break, we were learning so much from Cynthia Rylant about how to be a writer. She said, "The world does not leave us empty-handed".
After we read that, we talked about what she meant. Some of our big ideas were:
What stories have you been noticing and living over the break? Leave a comment to tell us what has been on your mind while your'e away. You could leave some tiny topics to write about, or you could even write a whole story - it can even be a fiction story! You can also respond to other kids' ideas with stories and topics of your own. I can't wait to read all about your adventures! |
