Have you ever wondered how a real author gets ideas? Well, we met an author today, and she shared with us the story behind her book, Wonder! Her name is Raquel Jaramilla, otherwise known by her pen name, R.J. Palacio. She told us about a personal experience when she failed to be kind and regretted it. Instead of just feeling bad about it, she decided to write a book that would inspire kindness and empathy. Who ever knew that a mistake could turn into a best-seller? Everyone has stories. What has happened to you that could inspire others?

You might have seen movies about twins switching places, but we saw it today in real life! Today was our friend Hannah's last day in our class. Her twin sister Lauren is in another second grade class. They are moving to a new school. As a prank on their last day, they decided to switch places! Lauren came to our classroom and Hannah went to Lauren's. Can you believe that? They stayed all the way until lunch. Then they switched back. We said goodbye at the end of the day, but we didn't want to let them go. Waaaaaaaahhhhh! We'll miss you! Hi! My name is Urvi. I am eight years old. My favorite games are tag, freeze tag, and hide and seek. I like them because they use energy and they make me strong. My favorite foods are pancakes, rice, milk, and that's it. My favorite school subjects are math, science, and social studies. In science, we do experiments and talk about science with our problem-solving groups. In social studies, we have been learning about jobs and money. In math, we do Remembering and sometimes math workshop. Today we had a Cozy Camp Out for March is Reading Month. It was the best thing ever because you read a lot and you also can talk about books and read with your buddy. These are my favorite things to do. That's all for now!
Howdy, families! Do you like reading? Well, you came to the right place. Follow me to Camp Read S'More! March is Reading Month and we are having all kinds of fun stuff to celebrate reading! We had Family Night last week. If you came to Family Night, here are the activities you could do: take a photo at the Camp Site, hear a story around a campfire at the Read Aloud Lagoon, go to the Lost and Found Swamp, make s'more trail mix at the Sweet Treat Trail, get some pizza at the Mess Hall, and go to the Campfire Sing-A-Long. It was really fun. It was 100% fun! That's all about Family Night.

Chocolate trumpets, chocolate coins, chocolate gloves. Do you know where they all came from? The chocolate touch! Dun! Dun! Duuuuuuun! Last week, we finished reading the book The Chocolate Touch. The main character's name is John Midas. He loooooved chocolate so much that he was greedy about it. He never even shared his chocolate or ate healthy food. One day, he went to a magical candy store that changed his life, and NOT in a good way! We won't tell you all the details, but in the end, he finally learned his lesson about being greedy. Caution: If you happen to see a new candy store, be careful not to get a golden box of chocolate, so you don't get the chocolate touch!
There we were, on the bus, heading to the Morley Candy Factory for a field trip for Social Studies. We got there, and we were so excited. There were different activities we were going to do. There was watching a movie about where chocolate comes from, seeing the assembly line, and visiting the store. (We got to go there first.) We walked inside the door, and BOOM! There it was - candy, candy everywhere! Big candies, little candies, sweet candies, sour candies. All kinds of candies! And of course, choooooocolaaaaate! We got to go shopping there, because in Social Studies, we are learning about how to spend money wisely. We only had up to five dollars to spend in the store, so we had to spend that money wisely. But at least some of the candy was cheap! Everybody got something yummy and had lots of fun.
