In Science, we have been learning about balance. For our first experiment, we balanced a paper crayfish on its nose. Almost everyone was able to do it easily once we learned to use clothespins as counterweights. Today, we balanced other paper shapes with counterweights. We learned that the counterweights have to be on the bottom to make something balance.
Hi! I'm Megan. I play soccer, and I've scored seven goals in one game before! Once I got to pet a real bunny. At school, Social Studies is my favorite subject because you can be the Poetry Director and sing songs. I get to go over to Ella's house every day in the morning. Mrs. Freeman is the best teacher! Now you know a little more about me.
When we got our class pet, we were really excited because it is very cool. It is a hunter, it blends in with grass and leaves, and it looks cool. It sneaks up on its prey and jabs it super fast before it can escape. If you look at it really close up, it is creepy. It looks at you with its big green eyes. Megan brought it in for us, and she says, "Don't poke it, or it will bite you!" Have you guessed what it is? It is a... praying mantis! Stop by and visit it sometime!
We've been building communities in our classroom, step by step. Before we could build them, though, we had to learn about communities. We learned that communities are places that people live, work, play, and solve problems together. We each created drawings of some of these places. Then, we got together in groups to decide where each part of our community should go. Finally, we put all of our ideas together to create a big collage of our very own community. After each group had a chance to share their work with the class, we got some new ideas! Then, we had a chance to revisit our own collages to add new details. They are hanging up in our classroom. Check them out next time you stop by!
Hi! My name is Emma and I'm really good with animals. I know because my uncle's cat really likes me, and I have a dog. I'm seven years old and my favorite food is peaches! I was the first person to get the Blogger job in my class. At first, I thought the job was bad, but after my teacher explained it, I was really, really excited!! So now you know a little bit about me. Have a great weekend!
Each day, in Reading Workshop, we try to read a little bit longer. We call this building our stamina. The first day, we read for 10 minutes. The second day, we read for 15 minutes. Today was our fifth day of Reading Workshop, and we read for twenty-seven whole minutes. We can't wait to see how long we read tomorrow!
We are learning our classroom rules. Each day, as we learn a new one, we get to act out saving the day! Today, three Super Smarties saved the day with kindness! Yesterday, two Super Smarties saved the day by keeping kids safe. I wonder how the Super Smarties will save the day tomorrow. Stay tuned to hear about the Super Heros rising...!
Today was our first day of second grade! We learned how our classroom works and got to know each other. We had indoor recess because it was raining cats and dogs!! We're so excited!

AuthorThis blog is maintained as a collaboration between all students and myself. Each week, one student has the classroom job of "Blogger". That student helps decide subjects for our posts, as well as writing one blog post about him/herself. Archives
